Frequently asked questions

What does an orbital slot such as 19.2E mean?

It is the nominal longitude of the satellite's sub-satellite point above the equator. It is not the observer's longitude and it is not an azimuth bearing.

Why does the app say Visible when I receive no signal?

Visible only means the satellite is above the horizon. The path can still be blocked, the location or target can be wrong, the service footprint may not cover the site, the transponder may be inactive, or the dish, LNB, cabling, switch, and receiver may be incompatible or misconfigured.

Should I use true azimuth or magnetic azimuth?

Use true azimuth with a map. Use magnetic azimuth with a magnetic compass.

Why does my compass disagree with DishPointer Pro 2?

Check whether you are comparing true and magnetic bearings. Then move away from steel, magnets, vehicles, speakers, motors, reinforced concrete, and energized cables. Calibrate the device if the platform requests it and compare from an open area.

Why does my offset dish face look lower than the displayed elevation?

An offset reflector's beam is angled relative to the face. The bracket scale and manufacturer geometry represent the signal path, so the dish face can look nearly vertical even at a positive elevation.

Which direction should I rotate the LNB for a positive or negative skew?

The direction is indicated by the circular arrow. Turn the LNB in that direction when standing behind the dish.

Does Obstacle Checker measure a tree or building height?

No. It estimates the height of a simplified virtual line at the selected distance. You must measure the obstacle and local ground separately and allow for uncertainty, vegetation growth, movement, and construction changes.

Why is Obstacle Checker unavailable?

It needs a valid selected location and aiming line on a 2D map. It is disabled in the Google 3D view and can also be unavailable when the active direction does not correspond to a valid slot.

Why is the target missing in AR view?

Confirm that a usable observer and target are selected. Allow camera access and, only if you use Current Location, location access. Wait until compass and AR tracking are ready, turn toward the calculated azimuth and elevation.

Why does the AR target drift or jump?

Nearby magnetic interference can cause errors. Make sure you stay away from metal or electronic objects. If your device is in a case with magnetic closure buttons, remove it. This also applies to iPAds, iPad keyboards and the Pen.

Can I use the app without location permission?

Yes. Search an address or enter latitude and longitude, then choose the result or a saved location. AR view still needs the other camera and orientation permissions required by the platform.
